What should I know about abobotulinumtoxinA before taking it?

People who are allergic to any of the ingredients in abobotulinumtoxinA, or a similar medication, or have an allergy to cow's milk should not use the drug. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should talk with their doctor, as abobotulinumtoxinA may not be safe for your baby.
People with certain medical conditions, including nerve or muscle problems, seizures, bleeding disorders, heart problems, eye problems, or diabetes, should discuss their condition with their doctor before using abobotulinumtoxinA. Children younger than 18 and elder adults should use abobotulinumtoxinA cautiously, as there is an increased risk of side effects. AbobotulinumtoxinA may cause serious breathing or swallowing problems. Tell your doctor right away if you experience these problems. AbobotulinumtoxinA may also cause dizziness, vision changes, sensitivity to light, droopy eyelids, or muscle weakness. Do not drive or perform other similar tasks until you know how the drug affects you. You should not take abobotulinumtoxinA any less than four months after your last injection of abobotulinumtoxinA or another botulinum toxin. AbobotulinumtoxinA can also interact with other medications. Let you doctor know if you are taking any of the following: aminoglycosides; anticholinesterase medications; lincosamides; magnesium; muscle relaxants; neuromuscular blockers; polymyxin; quinidine; or anticholinergics.
