Anectine should be used in children only in emergency situations. In rare occasions, children had abnormal heart rhythms and their heart stopped when they were given Anectine. These children had pre-existing muscle diseases (Duchenne muscular dystrophy) that did not show any clinical signs. They were usually males younger than eight years of age, although there were a few cases involving adolescents. Anectine can also slow the heart rate. This effect happens more in children than in adults.
