Does azathioprine interact with other medications or foods?

Azathioprine can have serious interactions with allopurinol, tacrolimus, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, chemotherapy drugs, gold compounds, anticoagulants (blood thinners), warfarin, antimalarials, co-trimoxazole, cyclosporine, penicillamine and sirolimus. Also, inform your doctor if you're taking olsalazine, sulfasalazine, methotrexate or mercaptopurine, as well as any vitamins, supplements or herbs. It is also important that you wash your hands before putting any foods or medications in your mouth to help prevent infection.
