Can elderly people take tizanidine?

Whether elderly people can take tizanidine (Zanaflex) depends on their health and what other medications they're taking. Some drugs may interact with tizanidine, including ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic) and fluvoxamine (used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder).

Elderly people also should know that tizanidine, a treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS), can make them dizzy if they get up too quickly from lying down. Because dizziness can cause falls (and falls can cause bone fractures in older adults), they should get up slowly, ease their feet over the side of the bed and wait until they feel stable before standing up.
