Who should not take Carbatrol?

People who have an allergy to the ingredients in Carbatrol or to tricyclic antidepressants, the muscle relaxer cyclobenzaprine, or similar drugs should not take Carbatrol. Additionally, people with heart or blood disorders, including bone marrow problems, should not take the drug. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) users may not take Carbatrol within 2 weeks of taking an MAOI, and nefazodone users should not take Carbatrol until their nefazodone doses end. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not take Carbatrol. Your doctor may decide against prescribing Carbatrol if your medical history or current medications could interfere with its effects or put you at risk.
