What is propranolol?

Propranolol is a type of medicine called a beta-blocker. Propranolol is prescribed to treat high blood pressure, angina, migraines, irregular heartbeat, heart disease, and adrenal gland tumors. The medicine affects nerve impulse responses in specific parts of the body and relaxes blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure and slowing heart rate. Propranolol is available with a prescription as tablets, extended release capsules, and solution.
