What should I know about Intuniv before my child takes it?

Before your child takes Intuniv you should know that your child may need counseling or other therapy as part of a treatment program that includes this medication. Intuniv could cause side effects, some of which may be serious. You should discuss your child's health and medical conditions with the doctor before your child starts taking this medication.

Some medical conditions may require a dose adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. These include:

  • heart disease
  • slow heartbeat
  • low blood pressure
  • issues with fainting
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease

Girls who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take Intuniv. Periodic assessment by the doctor is recommended for treatment of longer than nine weeks.
