How should I take carbamazepine?

Carbamazepine is available in a number of different oral forms, including tablet, chewable tablet, suspension, and capsule. No matter what form you use, be sure to take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. Tablets and suspension may cause nausea and should be taken with food. Be sure to swallow the non-chewable tablets whole. Capsules may be taken with or without meals and may also be broken open over food. Take carbamazepine at the same time each day, and never take more or less than your prescribed dose.
