How should I take lamotrigine?

Lamotrigine is available as either a regular tablet, an orally disintegrating (ODT) tablet, or a chewable dispersible (CD) tablet to be taken orally. Regular tablets should be taken with a glass of water. ODT tablets should be put on your tongue and moved around your mouth as they dissolve. CD tablets can be swallowed whole, chewed, or dissolved in a small amount of water or dilute fruit juice before being swallowed.

You can take lamotrigine either with or without food. However, if it causes your stomach to feel upset, try to take it with food to see if this helps. You should try to take your lamotrigine at approximately the same times each day so that the levels in your body stay constant. A typical dose is one tablet one or two times every day.
