How does propranolol treat tremors?

Propranolol is prescribed to manage essential tremors, specifically hereditary tremors. Propranolol reduces tremor severity, but does not reduce tremor frequency. Studies have not yet established the exact mechanism in propranolol that causes this effect. Propranolol is not used to treat tremors resulting from Parkinson's disease.
