What are the health benefits of iodine?

While iodine is not usually a news-making mineral, it’s still necessary for good health. There are some studies that suggest iodine may protect against fibrocystic breast changes because of an anti-inflammatory effect. The Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) is 150 micrograms. The best food sources are fresh or saltwater seafood and shellfish, foods grown in iodine-rich soil, milk, and iodized-enriched bread.
