What should I know before taking ferrous sulfate with folic acid?

If you take ferrous sulfate or any iron supplement, tell your doctor if you’re also taking folic acid. That’s because this combination could result in vitamin B12 deficiency. Don’t take more than 1,000 micrograms (μg.) of folic acid daily. More than this can lead to deficiencies of vitamin B12, an essential nutrient. This can then cause an anemia to develop. The elderly are especially at risk.
