Iodine is generally safe to use on your skin. Though rare, some people may react badly to it and experience the following side effects around the area where it is applied: a burning sensation; a rash or other skin irritation; itching; and blistering, crusting or reddening of the skin. Also, some people are allergic to iodine products. If you have an iodine allergy, you might experience the following symptoms after using it: a severe rash; itching; hives; dizziness; a tight feeling in the chest; breathing difficulties; and swelling of the face, mouth, lips or tongue.
