Simple projection can enhance your ability to energize by helping focus your attention and energizing center within the body. Here are some simple steps you can follow to do projection visualization:
1. In a room with the lights turned low, project the flashlight beam onto a white wall, or a white sheet of unlined paper that you’ve placed upon the wall. Hold the flashlight 2 to 3 feet from your target. This should produce a tight beam about 3 inches in diameter.
2. Observe the beam as it cuts through the dark and projects onto the wall. Study the beam and its solid core for 30 seconds.
3. Put your projecting hand in the proper energy-projecting position. Hold the flashlight in your nondominant hand, and move it directly under your projecting hand.
4. Focus on the core of the beam on the wall and then trace it with your eyes back to the palm chakra of your projecting hand. Hold your attention on your palm chakra for a few moments, then trace the beam back to the wall, from your palm chakra to the white core of the beam on the wall. Trace this back and forth three times slowly.
5. Close your eyes. Keeping the flashlight in place, imagine that brilliant white light with the solid core flowing from your palm chakra. Hold this visualization for 10 seconds. Now open your eyes and trace the beam back and forth one more time. Then, close your eyes again and hold the visualization for 10 more seconds.
6. Relax, then repeat the exercise again.
Though visualization is not critical to mastering the water pump technique, it does enhance your energizing effectiveness. Thus, we include this simple projection visualization exercise. You’ll need a flashlight that projects a strong core of light at the center of its beam. Pelican flashlights, which have a halogen bulb and are used by scuba divers and fire departments, have a good, solid beam. Mag-Lites, the two- and three-cell flashlights used by police departments, are also good.

Take your time with this exercise, which is designed purely to help you visualize. Have fun with it. After you practice a few times, try imagining that the head of the flashlight is actually on the center of your palm and projecting its beam directly from your palm chakra.
