How long should I energize?

Believe it or not, exercise will help you become more energized. Regular physical activity increases the blood flow to your body and improves your cardiovascular health and fitness. This will allow more blood and oxygen to get to the body providing energy to do work. Regular physical activity also increases production of vital hormones such as thyroid-stimulating  hormone, testosterone, human growth hormone, and catecholamines, all of which help increase your metabolism and give you more energy. Regular physical activity also makes you more efficient at utilizing your body’s stores of fat and sugar for fuel, which allows you to burn them for energy and also helps regulate blood sugar levels and prevent the peaks and valleys that can cause fatigue. All of this will help you see a big increase in energy once you start engaging in regular physical activity.

As you become more experienced, you can rely on your ability to scan and feel for the appropriate level of prana. When you feel a slight repulsion from the energized area or chakra, or you feel that the prana in the deficient area is built up to a level where it seems even with the contour of the nearby energetic anatomy, you’re finished energizing. You may develop an intuition that tells you, “That’s enough prana.” When you work on other people, you can rely on their feedback. If, for instance, you energize a person’s front solar plexus and your subject reports fullness or tightness in the chest, you’ve energized too much. The remedy is simple: Sweep away the excess prana until it reaches the appropriate level in relation to the nearby energetic anatomy. Until you build up that level of experience and sensitivity, however, rely on this rule of thumb: Energize for five to seven cycles of pranic breathing for simple ailments, such as a mild headaches, and 10 or more cycles for more difficult problems, such as a serious sprain. Scan periodically as you energize to determine if the area fills up before you reach the recommended number of breaths.
