What is Telcagepant?

Telcagepant is a new migraine drug being developed by Merck. This drug is potentially very exciting for migraine patients because it works by a totally new mechanism. Telcagepant works by blocking the dilation of blood vessels surrounding the brain during a migraine. Telcagepant does this by blocking calcitonin gene-related peptide. This means that this drug may be particularly helpful for people who haven’t done well with the currently available drugs that target serotonin receptors, like the triptans.
