Should a doctor be contacted if methanol poisoning is suspected?

If methanol poisoning is suspected, medical help should be sought immediately as methanol can have quick and very serious effects on the body, including death. Anyone who has symptoms of methanol poisoning, including visual disturbances, drunkenness, or abdominal pain, and especially if they have a history of methanol ingestion, should call the National Poison Control Center or go to the nearest emergency room. Intensive care must be received.
