Who should not take Riomet?

Riomet (metformin) is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for children under age 10. People with reduced kidney function or liver disease also should not take Riomet.

If you're going to have a surgical procedure, or an imaging procedure that uses an iodinated contrast agent, stop taking Riomet until after you've recovered.

Do not take Riomet if you're allergic to metformin or to any of the inactive ingredients in this medication. Tell your doctor about all medications you're taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements.
