Can I use Riomet if I am breastfeeding?

Research has not been done on breastfeeding women who take Riomet (metformin). However, animal studies have found that the drug is passed through breast milk, so it could cause blood sugar levels in babies to become too low.

Women with type 2 diabetes who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed should discuss the risks and benefits of taking Riomet with their doctors.
