How can I minimize the side effects of Riomet?

You can minimize some of the side effects of Riomet (metformin) by taking it exactly as directed and monitoring your blood sugar levels as often as your doctor recommends to make sure they stay within a healthy range.

You also should avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol or drinking alcohol frequently while taking this drug. Alcohol may cause low blood sugar, which can increase your risk of developing a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Talk with your doctor about how much alcohol you can safely drink while taking Riomet.
