When taking Glumetza, you should avoid drinking alcohol. It’s been shown that alcohol lowers blood sugar. This may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. With this disorder, the body’s oxygen levels drop. Lactic acid then builds up in the bloodstream faster than it can be removed. The symptoms include:
  • Weakness
  • Increasing sleepiness
  • Slow heart rate
  • Cold feeling
  • Muscle pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fainting
