What are the symptoms of hyperkalemia?

Hyperkalemia usually does not produce symptoms until it has reached a crisis level. Most cases are discovered during routine blood tests or during an electrocardiogram (EKG) for other conditions. Severe hyperkalemia causes the heart to beat abnormally or to stop entirely. Other symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, paralysis, and nausea.
