What makes mental health problems worse?

Mental health problems sometimes get worse as a naturally progression of the illness. Often, however, something can trigger the symptoms or make them worse. Stopping medication is a major reason for worsening symptoms. Substance abuse is another common cause. Stressful life events, such as a death in the family, divorce, family conflict, or losing a job, can also trigger worsening symptoms.
