When urogynecologists in Grand Rapids, Michigan, helped set up the “Laugh Don’t Leak” comedy show last year, they wanted to become rainmakers for the National Association for Continence. And while that fundraiser didn’t leave a dry...eye…in the house, we think they could have followed it up with a “Can You Kegel?” after-party for guys.

Most guys don’t know that pelvic floor muscle exercises (called Kegels) that help women control bladder problems and enhance orgasm can help them, too. The 16% of older men who are incontinent, the 52% of men with some degree of erectile dysfunction, the 50% of guys 51 to 60 with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and the 30% of men who experience premature ejaculation can all benefit.

Here’s the routine: Next time you’re urinating, stop the flow. You’ve just used the muscles you want to strengthen. Now, empty your bladder and try the routine: Contract your pelvic floor muscles -- tight -- for 3 seconds; relax for 3 seconds. Aim for 10 repetitions, three times a day -- day after day.

One more thing: We know there’s a new silicone penis barbell (we kid you not!) that slips around the shaft. It’s designed to make Kegels more of a workout. But we think your first choice should be a combo of standard Kegels with a total body workout (walking 10,000 steps a day; getting ½ hour of strength training 2-3 days a week). That’ll help you lose weight, improve your circulation and your attitude -- and that’s guaranteed to make your love life livelier.
