When should men learn to shave?

Learning to shave is often viewed as a rite of passage for young men. Most boys have a significant amount of facial hair by the end of puberty. Regardless of when a man learns to shave, he should recognize that the technique he was taught may or may not be the one that's best for his skin. For a healthy shave, consider following these steps or consult a dermatologist:
  • Wet your beard before shaving.
  • Shave in the direction the hair grows. Don't shave against the grain.
  • Avoid repeating strokes with your razor.
  • No matter what your father used to do, don't stretch your skin taut as you shave; always leave your facial skin relaxed.
