What ingredients should men look for in an anti-aging skincare product?

Men, at least in the United States, seldom use a regimen of products to treat their skin.  Their skin care practices typically are associated with shaving and the application of fragranced toiletries.  Men have many of the signs of aging that women have, especially hard/dry skin, uneven pigmentation, and a red/ruddy complexion.  It is important to note that the structure of men's skin is different than women's.  Both have the same elements, but they are packaged differently.   Men's collagen and elastin are more cross-linked which provides a much tighter and firmer skin.   Anti-aging products for men should be multifunctional.  They should moisturize the skin and contain a high (greater than 15 broad spectrum) level of sunscreens and antioxidants to protect the skin.  They should contain soothing agents to address after-shaving irritation and pacify the damage done by sunlight, smoking and other environmental conditions.  Finally, they should contain nutritional elements such as vitamins A, B-series, C, D, E and F.  If there is a noticeable uneven pigmentation, then materials to whiten/brighten the skin should be considered.

Should you choose to look into anti-aging products, there are several ingredients that have been shown to improve signs of skin aging. At the top of the list are sunscreens that block both UVA and UVB rays. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) such as lactic acid, citric acid, and glycolic acid can improve skin texture and hydration. Other common anti-aging ingredients include antioxidants, which may help to prevent cell damage in the skin; alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), which can reduce skin inflammation and exfoliate skin, vitamins, and retinoids, vitamin-A derived ingredients that help to even out skin color and minimize fine wrinkles.
