Are there any health benefits to not shaving my face?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Men who have certain skin conditions may benefit from not shaving. For instance, dermatologists will often recommend that men with a condition called pseudofolliculitis forego shaving. This skin problem typically afflicts men with very curly hair. A close shave can cause facial hairs to grow inward, which may produce acne-like bumps. If a man with persistent pseudofolliculitis or other skin problems doesn't wish to grow a beard, a doctor can recommend treatments that may allow him to continue shaving.
