How do medications treat mucosal melanoma?

Medications are usually used as a second line of treatment for mucosal melanoma. Generally, surgical removal of the cancerous growth, the surrounding tissue, and the nearby lymph nodes is the first line of treatment. After that, medications in the form of chemotherapy may be used. This treatment involves medications taken either by mouth or intravenously for several months. The strong chemicals in those drugs work to kill cancerous cells that may have spread throughout the body.
