Does the skill of meditation really help during karate?

Traditional Okinawan goju Ryu Karate begins and ends with mokuso (meditation) in order to develop breathing techniques, visualization skills, positive self talk, and a clear mind. Skills such as various forms of visualization and meditation have been shown to pay great dividends with pre-competition jitters, acute performance anxiety, and physical performance. Meditation, or any form of visualization, is a skill that requires consistent and repetitive practice. It is a good idea to practice these techniques prior to all training sessions and upcoming matches.
