What is Suboxone?

Suboxone is the brand name for a combination of the drugs buprenorphine and naloxone and is used to treat opiate addiction. Opiates are a type of drug that includes heroin, opium, codeine, and morphine, and are extremely addictive. Buprenorphine is a type of medication known as opioid partial agonist-antagonists (opioids for short). Opioids mimic the effect of taking an opiate drug, but produce less euphoric sensations. Naloxone acts to block the effects of actual opiates in the system, preventing withdrawal symptoms.
