What is Chantix used for?

Chantix (varenicline), a tablet, is used as a smoking cessation medication. Doctors and scientists believe that Chantix attaches to the brain's nicotine receptors and blocks nicotine from reaching them. When Chantix is taken along with counseling or a stop-smoking program, it helps ease nicotine cravings and cigarette withdrawal symptoms.

Chantix (varenicline) helps people quit smoking. It stops your brain from having a response to the addictive nicotine in cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco and other forms of tobacco. Your brain doesn't get a rush from the nicotine while taking Chantix, so when you quit, you have few or no withdrawal symptoms.
