Can inkjet technology help deliver medication to patients?

A new device, developed by Hewlett-Packard, can be likened to a computer-controlled drug patch.

It uses HP's existing inkjet technology to painlessly inject precise amounts of drugs into a patient&apso;s body. It also employs an emerging technology involving microneedles. While the inkjet system controls the flow of drugs, the microneedles transmit the drugs through the skin. The device looks like a nicotine patch, but is a little heavier. The microneedles are made of silicon, metals and biodegradable polymers.
