The insurance industry is very interested in the personal health record (PHR). An advantage to insurer-based PHRs is often cost: insurers are likely to offer PHRs for free with enrollment. Disadvantages might include the inability to use the PHR should the individual change insurers and the use of the individual's information by the insurance company. For instance, some web sites state in their privacy disclaimers that information supplied may be used to better understand healthcare needs.
