Children usually do not develop malignant mesothelioma. People most at risk for developing the disease are those with long-term exposure to asbestos. In some cases, family members of people who work with asbestos can develop malignant mesothelioma, too, because workers can bring asbestos particles into the home on their clothing or skin.
