How can I keep from becoming part of a malaria pandemic?

Probably the simplest thing that one can do to avoid contracting malaria and becoming part of the ongoing pandemic is to avoid areas in which malaria is endemic. When uninfected individuals travel to region in which malaria is prevalent, there are several precautions that should be taken. Probably the most important precaution you can take is in taking prescription medication to keep from contracting malaria. Use insect repellant and wear long sleeves, particularly when outdoors and at nighttime. When sleeping, using mosquito netting treated with insecticide is a good idea. If you will be staying in an endemic area for a significant length of time, try to get rid of the mosquitoes in your immediate area. Such measures include spraying around your living quarters with anti-mosquito insecticides and active elimination of potential breeding grounds.
