What else is azithromycin used to treat?

Azithromycin can be used to treat the early stages of Lyme disease, H. pylori (the infection associated with stomach ulcers) and other infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Sometimes this prescription medication is used to prevent heart infections for certain patients who are having dental surgery or other medical procedures. If a patient has experienced a sexual assault, azithromycin may be used to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.  Azithromycin can also be used for mycobacterium infections that can occur in patients with a very low immune system.
