What is discoid lupus erythematosus?

Discoid lupus erythematosus, or cutaneous lupus, is different from the three other forms of lupus because it only deals with the skin. Individuals with this disease develop rashes all over the face, neck, and scalp. This form of lupus can cause you to develop scars and lose hair. Sometimes, discoid lupus erythematosus will evolve into the more severe form of lupus, systematic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
