Can herbal remedies cause liver disease?

Some herbal remedies and other herbs can cause liver disease, not repair damage. Some herbs you should avoid include kava, comfrey, cascara, borage, chaparral, Ma-huang, germander, and pennyroyal oil. These herbs contain an alkaloid that blocks blood flow to the liver. Speak to your doctor before using any herbal remedy or other unusual herb.
