Does liver cancer affect children differently than adults?

The types of liver diseases that occur most frequently in children are different from those that occur most frequently in adults. Children are more likely to be affected by inherited diseases and diseases related to birth defects like biliary atresia, which prevents bile from reaching the intestine. Adults are more likely to be affected by liver diseases caused by environmental and behavioral factors, such as exposure to toxins or viruses and excessive consumption of alcohol.
