After a few weeks of treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), many of the leukemic lymphoblasts will have been destroyed. The doctors will continue the treatment until they’re sure most of the leukemic lymphoblasts are gone. To make sure that no new leukemic lymphoblasts are being made, treatment might need to be continued for a while: up to eight months getting strong treatment, and two more years or so getting milder chemotherapy, mostly at home.
