Do leg lifts work my lower abs?

Yes and no. When people talk about lower abs, they are usually talking about their rectus abdominals. This muscle runs from the bottom of your sternum to your pelvis. It can pull the spine into flexion from either direction, such as when you're lifting your shoulders during a crunch or flexing your hips with a leg lift. When performed correctly, the leg lift will activate the rectus abdominals and other abdominal muscles including the muscles of the pelvic floor. Other muscles such as your hip flexors (muscles on the front of your hip) are also working when you perform this exercise.
