Is lead poisoning serious?

Lead poisoning can be extremely serious; it can even cause death. Severe cases in adults can result in cataracts, infertility, and increased blood pressure. Children are most at risk because lead poisoning strikes when their nervous systems are not fully developed; the disorder can permanently impair their hearing and their ability to learn.

Though lead poisoning can be treated, many of its effects on people's health cannot be reversed.
