Why is early detection of lead poisoning so important?

Exposure to small amounts of lead may not cause symptoms, but it can increase the risk of future problems. Lead is not eliminated from the body, so it builds up over time. When the symptoms are recognized, mental and/or physical impairment may already have occurred.

Whenever you suspect lead poisoning is affecting a family member, seek a diagnosis and treatment from a healthcare professional. Be aware that permanent and irreversible damage can result if lead poisoning goes undetected and untreated.
