Can liposuction lower health risks associated with obesity?

Studies have not found that liposuction will significantly lower health risks associated with obesity.  Overall weight loss through diet and exercise, however, may greatly reduce symptoms associated with hypertension, diabetes, and stroke. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I instruct my patients that liposuction is NOT a cure for binge eating and obesity. It should be performed on patients close to their ideal body weight with localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.
