Is acute laryngitis contagious?

Although acute laryngitis itself is not infectious, sometimes the underlying causes for it are. For instance, viral infections such as the common cold (which can cause acute laryngitis) can be spread from person to person, so it is important to practice good hygiene and minimize your exposure to people who may be suffering from a cold or the flu. When acute laryngitis comes about due to vocal strain, alcohol consumption, bulimia, or heartburn, it is not contagious.
