How common is kidney cancer?

In general, kidney cancer is not a very common disease. Around 64,000 new cases of kidney and related renal pelvis cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States. These make up about 3.8% of all new cancer diagnoses. Of all cancer fatalities, kidney and renal pelvis cancers make up only about 2.4% of them. The most commonly-affected group is males who are between 55 and 75 years old.
