Can I use ParaGard if I am breastfeeding?

ParaGard (T 380A Intrauterine Copper Contraceptive) is safe to use to prevent pregnancy while you're breastfeeding. Unlike birth control pills, ParaGard doesn't interfere with breast milk production or cause potential side effects in the baby. Some women choose to have this IUD (intrauterine device) inserted soon after giving birth. Despite common belief, breastfeeding doesn't provide complete protection against pregnancy. If you don't use birth control, you can get pregnant while nursing.
