What are risk factors for heat illness?

Being active in a warm and humid environment is a risk factor for heat illness. Any condition that can limit the ability to regulate temperature can also lead to heat illness. These include old age (65 and older), young age (age 0 to 4), obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, mental illness, poor circulation, sunburn, prescription drug use and alcohol use.
