Are all pandemics caused by bacteria or viruses?

A significant percentage of historical and current infectious disease pandemics have been or are caused by bacterial and viral pathogens. However, these outbreaks can result from other infectious microorganisms. Rickettsiae are a variety of pathogen, loosely classified as bacteria that act like viruses and can cause pandemic disease. Protozoan parasites, such as the Plasmodium species that cause malaria, can result in epidemic and pandemic outbreaks.
