How effective are cyclosporine eyedrops?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

Studies show cyclosporine eyedrops work well for many people with dry eye syndrome due to inflammation. In one study, this treatment was successful for 74% of people with mild dry eye, 72% of people with moderately severe dry eye, and 67% of people with severe dry eye. Cyclosporine eyedrops also slow the progress of dry eye problems by fighting inflammation. Fighting inflammation is an important part of stopping the ongoing cycle that causes dry eyes to get worse.
